Group 2 Joshua Schwartzlow

Garden Group 2- Wed. Sept. 25, 26

Date Worked: Wednesday, September 26, 2012
Time: 3:00-3:30pm
People Present: Joshua, Rey, Ian, Taylor, Ivana, Destiny

Observations: The soil in the garden plots were mostly cleared of weeds and dead plants. While we were working in the garden we noticed that the dirt was very rock and compact. Half of the basil plant was covered with flowers. The plants that were in the garden were basil, tomato, banana, and sugar cane.

What I did individually: First, I broke up the compact soil with a pickax and a shovel. Second, I dug holes in the soil with the shovel. Third, I planted Kale, Lettuce and Rosemary in the newly dug hole. Finally, I ended my garden work with watering the plants I had planted.

What the group accomplished: Half of the group focused on pulling off the basil flowers and pulling out any weeds they could find. While the other half of the group worked on digging the holes, planting the plants and loosening the dirt.

What needs to be done by the next group: The next group should make sure that all of the recently planted plants should be watered and the whatever weeds we missed should be pulled out. The next group should plant more plants to keep the soil from eroding away.

What should we harvest?: The basil is ready to be harvested.
