Last Week of February
As we come to the end of the last week of February, the garden has seen some changes....
On Tuesday (2/25/20) students were working to keep the weeds in the garden at bay, keep the kukui nut trees healthy & growing, and moving some of the soil that we have in the soil pile to other spots in the garden.
In Ms.Betancourt's box- I have purchased a few plants to plant in the box soon, these include a nasturtium, swiss/rainbow chard, and an italian oregano plant. The oregano doesn't seem to be doing to well, but Tai helped me out by trying to revive it & repotting it, Now only time will tell if it comes back to life. As for the other students, Joel, Cole & Margaret, they weeded out the other garden boxes & distributed some new soil to them, so they are now ready to be planted!
On Wednesday (2/27/20) students worked on the planters closest to the science quad, and weeded the area around the sweet potatoes (by Mr.Timmins room) & even dug up a baby sweet potato! Thanks Tory & Natalie!(Hopefully the chickens didn't see that😜 !) The
ʻAʻaliʻi plant (scientific name:
Dodonaea viscosa) got some TLC from Riana & Ryan and now we can see the taro keiki that is growing there.
The seedling boys (Edward, Jason, Devontae), helped out today as to get some seedling started. They planted one & half small pots of strawberries, bell pepper, pumpkin and papaya! We'll see how they grow & hopefully we can use them in the garden or sell them when we do our upcountry farmers market day-April 25, 2020!
Well hope you enjoy the pics & until next week!
Happy Gardening!
