I worked on Tuesday May 20, 2014. Before working I noticed that there were many weeds, but things still needed to be harvested. As an individual I picked weeds under the banana tree and a little by the sidewalk in that area. As a group we mainly picked weeds around the right side of the garden near the band room. Well I know we are the last group but the next group could pick more weeds and finish harvesting. We could do anything with harvest, but a salad looks best.

I worked on 5/21/14 with Maeflor, Travis, David, Gaby, and Zeke. Before we began to work, there were a ton of weeds. They've been growing extremely fast, especially since we've just pulled a bunch. We individually weeded around the papaya tree and the strawberries. Next year, we should continue to plant and pull weeds. Hopefully the current 8th graders will be assigned to do that. With the harvest, we should give the fresh fruit and vegetables to the cafeteria.

Garden Tuesday May 13
I worked on Tuesday May 13 with Tiana. We worked by the Papaya trees to weed the area. We noticed that the tarp that was laid down to keep the weeds down by the tree was put down wrong because there were weeds growing underneath it. For next week or next year I recommend still keeping the garden groomed and grow more flowers to make it look nice.

Garden Group 4
On Wednesday 14, 2014. I worked in the garden with Austin. Some observations we made were that Flowers were growing on the papaya tree (a.k.a. Maeflor's papaya tree) and that the plants were surrounded with tons of weeds. We couldn't identify whether it was a weed or a plant so there were a lot of random spots of plants/weeds. There were also papayas and strawberries growing in the garden along with sunflowers. They were really pretty. I think the next group (whoever that is) should really do more weeding and planting. THE GARDEN NEEDS CARE.

I worked on May 21st, 2014. The people with me were Chandlette, Maeflor, Travis, and Zeke. Before we started working, there tons of weeds, ranging from small to big. Individually, we all pulled weeds and pat the dirt back to make a smoother surface of dirt. At the end, we accomplished getting a good portion of the garden cleaned, but not enough to get rid of it all. The next group should continue to weed the garden and work on the compost. However, that is the last week of garden group workers, so the next garden groups after them, will be the future garden groups should follow our footsteps except do a better job by keeping it clean and weed-free. We should use the harvest for creating foods for the class or give it to the cafeteria to make healthier foods to serve at lunch.

Today 5/20/14 I worked in the garden.
Me, kehau, grant, zeke, brannon, koltyn worked on the garden today 5/20/14. I pulled many weeds around the sidewalk that leads to the band room. Zeke and Brannon also did the same but in different areas. Some administration workers came by to get vegetables and look at the garden. This is the last garden group of my 9th grade year and hope the new 9th graders can keep it clean and keeps the food still eidible.

I worked on Tuesday May 13, 2014 with Claire Parker. When we got to the garden it was covered in overgrown weeds. It looked like no one took care of it for weeks. Claire and I both weeded in the front around the papaya trees. We accomplished making that area clear of weeds. The next group really needs to weed all over the garden, its pretty bad. I couldn't see the harvest but there were some strawberries that could be picked.

Garden
I worked on May 14, 2014 with Gaby. Before we started working, I noticed that a lot of weeds were present around the garden and the ground was very muddy and wet. I also noticed that the dirt was clumped around the weeds, making them harder to pull out. Individually, I worked on pulling out weeds and cleaning the hydroponics system. My group accomplished weeding a portion of the garden around the papaya tree and cleaning out the filter of the hydroponics system. I think the next group should weed more around the papaya tree and around the sunflower/ tomato plants. With the harvest, the class should make a pizza and have all the harvested crops as toppings. It could be a vegetarian pizza.

I worked on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. I initially saw that the garden had many weeds and was very dry. Individually I pulled weeds and put the remains in the dumpster. I also watered the whole garden. It was a very dry and hot day. Our group pulled almost a whole 4 ft. x 4 ft. section of weeds. The next group should WEED. We have a lot of weeds all over the garden that may jeopardize our harvest. We should make a salad. We have fruits, lettuce, and tomatoes. We can also eat the salad during finals! (instead of a test) just kidding

Garden
I worked in the garden on May 7th by myself. When I looked at the garden, all I saw was weeds so first I watered down the area I was planning on weeding. I started to weed by the stepping stone so we could walk in the garden. Then I migrated over by the bigger area of weeds. I think our first priority is to weed around the plants so they don't suffocate. I also think that we should harvest the veggies that are ready to eat so we could possibly have a salad again before school gets out.

I worked on Wednesday May 1st, 2014. Before I started working I went to all of the classrooms with compost buckets and emptied them into the vermiculture bin. Before I started weeding I noticed that there was still many weeds around the plants growing, so that is where I decided to start. Also, many of the plants we planted are starting to grow large, some might even be ready to harvest. Individually I weeded a lot of the area near the sidewalk, but close to the front row of plants. I continuously made my way up thought to about halfway through the plants. As a ground we all weeded in about the same area. Except Jordynn who mainly weeded near the top. The next group definitely needs to weed more, a lot more. There are a variety of vegetables and things that can be harvested. I think we can always make a salad, but just having everyone take a bit home is a good option too.

We worked on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Before starting work, the main observations I made were that the garden was looking particularly dry and was overgrown. It hadn't been raining lately, and apparently the assigned weeding wasn't being kept up in the long run. The weird, thorny, big weeds were growing back. They were pretty hard to uproot in the first place, so their reappearance was 100% negative. Individually, I weeded out a pretty big patch of soil using a hoe and a hand trowel. I also watered the garden. It was kind of hard to figure out how to hook up the hose. It took us a couple minutes to figure out. Finally, we gave up on the spray-control nozzle and just held the hose. At first, the technique to uproot weeds with the hoe wasn't very successful, but after a few tries, it worked just like we thought it would. As a group, Colin and I weeded and watered. We weeded behind the sunflowers and in the back of the garden behind the papaya trees. We also successfully watered all the plants in the garden. The next group definitely needs to keep weeding. They should also redo the covering tarp, seeing as the current one is not working. Colin and I would be able to oversee that project because it is our group's responsibility. The harvest can be used to make a salad, either fruit or traditional. We could also make tacos and use basil, chives, tomatoes, and lettuce as garnishes.
Friday, May 2, 2014
I worked on 4/30/14 with Jordynn, Soraya, Megan, and Grant. Observations I initially made before working was that the garden was filled with weeds. It really needed to be cleaned up. We individually worked in several areas in the garden. I was able to weed for about 45 minutes, harvest, collect bins, and dump the food scraps in the compost bins. Weeding and harvesting the vegetables were the main accomplishments. The next group needs to weed and plant some more. We didn't really have much time to completely finish it. We should make salad with the harvest.
