Hello All, We
are going "GREEN" for the Garden Observation Posts! (Get it "Going Green"
"Garden"-HEHEHE!!) So here is what each individual needs to include in their
posts: 1) a picture of your group working or before and after pictures of the
garden on your workday 2) Date you worked 3) Observations you made initially
before you started to work. 4) What work you did individually in the garden? What
work your group accomplished? 5) What you think needs to be done by the next
group? 6) What should we do with the harvest?

3. The amount of the weeds in the garden was overwhelming. They were absolutely everywhere and they were over powering the plants that we currently have growing in the garden.
4. Individually, I pulled weeds, took pictures, and helped with the placing of the tarp. Our garden group cut down weeds, pulled weeds, watered plants, and placed down a tarp and cinder blocks to help kill the weeds.
5. The next garden group needs to continue to pull weeds and monitor the plants under the trap to keep track of them. If the weeds under the tarp look wilted then they can take the tarp off and begin removing the weeds.
6. The was no harvest this week

I worked on the garden on 3-20-13. Before we started working, there were a lot of overgrown weeds next to the fence by the band room. The worm pit had also not been replenished with newspaper. Individually, I worked on clearing out the weeds in the section of the garden next to the band room. I pulled up weeds, raked them out of the garden area, and threw them into the dumpster after transporting them with a wheel barrow. As a group, Amanda and I put fresh newspaper into the worm pit and cleaned out a lot of the weeds. We also watered the soil.
The next group needs to continue with the weeding, because there is still much to be done. We might want to consider putting tarp over the weeds, so as to kill them faster. With the harvest, I think we should give some of it to the community, if we can get them to help out with the garden over the summer.

Treyanna-Lee Freitas- Garden Group 3
Some observations that I made before I started to work was that there was a lot of weeds by the banana trees and a lot of dead sugar cane leaves that should be cleaned out. In the garden my individual work that I did was water the garden because it was only me that went from my group and also I couldn't use tools because I didn't know the combo for the tool shed. Work that my group/I had accomplished was that we gave the plants water so that they could live longer. The next group should clean around the bananas and cane and pull the weeds in front of the sugar cane. With the harvest of the sugar cane we should cut up the sugar stalks and sell them in the snack shops and maybe with the money we get from the sugar cane stalk sale we could get more useful stuff to the garden like more seeds to plant so we have more harvest.

Micah Garden Group 3
Date Worked: Wednesday, March 13, 2013
Time: 3:00-3:30pm
Observations: Although there were vast improvements from previous weeks, I noticed that there was still some weeds around the plants. The basil seemed to be thriving.
What I did individually: I pulled out most of the flowers on the basil plants. I also pulled out a lot of the weeds surrounding the basil plant.
What the group accomplished: We pulled out many of the flowers on the basil plant. Also, we watered many of the plants including the sugar cane and basil plants. Weeds near the basil plants were also pulled out.
What needs to be done by the next group: I would like the next group to pull out more of the weeds and water the plants. Now would also be a good time to place a tarp over the areas containing weeds. This should help us eliminate the weeds faster.
What should we harvest and what should we do with it?: Nothing should be harvested at this time. When harvest is available, it should be shared amongst our peers and teachers.

Garden group 4
Observations: The garden needed to be weeded and the weeds in the middle by the banana plants were getting very high.
Individual Work: I watered the weeds so the ground would be softer and the weeds would be able to be taken out easier. I also weeded some areas, swept after and hosed off the gardening tools when we were finished.
Group Work: Garden Group four weeded and watered plants during the 30 minutes.
Next Garden group work\Harvest: The next group should finish weeding and possibly put a tarp down over the soil to stop new weeds from growing.

Garden Group 2- Biology Honors
Work Date: Wednesday, March 6, 2013
Observations: The majority of the garden is covered in weeds. The weeds cause a problem because when we pull out a portion of them they grow back and the other groups have to pull them out again. Another thing I noticed is that the plants we have like the basil and rosemary have to be trimmed and watered.
Individual Work: When I entered the garden I began to cut and pull out some of the weeds around the rosemary and basil. I was able to clear out a section in the garden and cut down some of the taller weeds. Then I threw out all of the rubbish in the dumpster.
Group work: Our group pulled out the weeds by the rosemary and basil. We also pulled off all the white flowers off of the basil plant. Another thing we did was water the basil, rosemary, banana trees, and kalo.
Next Group/Harvest: The next group should continue to pull out the weeds. They also have take care of the worms and start to prepare seedlings to plant. Also water all of the plants and trim the basil plant.

Date worked-March 15, 2013
The original observations I made were that the garden has a lot of weeding that needs to be done. The basil plant also needs some TLC because the flowers are becoming dominant.
Individual: A lot of weeding and raking. Also picked up the dead sugar cane leaves that have littered the garden. I also took the pictures (I should be a photographer). I also picked some of the white flowers off the basil plant.
Group work: Ian and I did a lot of weeding. We also watered all the plants inclucing the kalo in the pots.
I think the next group should continue weeding and watering. But weeding does not seem too efficient, so I think the 'tarping' idea will be very succesfull. Hopefully the next group will be able to complete that.
When the garden has finally grown food and other crops, I think we should share the harvest, especially with the people who contibuted to it. If we have enough crops, maybe we could even sell them in a booth at a swap meet.

Worke Date: March 6, 2013 Wednessday
Observation: While I was observing, I saw alot of weeds in our garden. I also saw that the rosmary was dried out. Also, the basil plant caught my eye because the flowers were overpowering the actual plant.
Individual work: I mostly watered the plants. From the taro, to the basil, to the sugar cane. I lso helped pick off the white flowers from the basil plant.
Group accomplishment: Our goup accomplished watering the plants, puling out alot of weeds, and maeking the basil plant look better and healthier.
Next group/ harvest: I think the next group shuld continue pulling weeds, watering the plants, and makeing the basil plant look better., By that I mean there were some dry and dead parts of the basil toards the bottom of the plant.

I worked on March 6, 2013 Wednesday
Observations: Before our group started to work on the garden, I saw a lot of weeds everywhere and lots of white flowers on the basil. I also noticed there weren't bees around the basil which seemed unusual because every time I work on the garden, I'm afraid I might get stung by one of them.
Individual/Accomplishment: I basically worked on the basil. Pulled out the white flowers and helped my member pull out some of the weeds. Mostly I worked on picking the white flowers. Our group watered all the plants and pulled out weeds.
Next Group/Harvest: I think that the next group should continue to water the plants. Do a lot of weeding! Check the basil and other plants in our garden. Pick up some trash/plastic if there is any. I don't think we should harvest at this moment. We should focus on fixing up the garden and start planting as soon as possible.

Hello All, We are going "GREEN" for the Garden
Observation Posts! (Get it "Going Green" "Garden"-HEHEHE!!) So here is what each
individual needs to include in their posts: 1) a picture of your group working

Observations you made initially before you started to work. 4) What work you did
individually in the garden? What work your group accomplished? 5) What you think
needs to be done by the next group? 6) What should we do with the
harvest?
Response:
I am in garden group 3 of Biology Honors and I worked on
February 29, 2013. Before we began working, the garden had weeds everywhere. I
mean absolutely everywhere! The basil and rosemary plants were overgrown and
surrounded by huge weeds. For my part in the garden work, I pulled weeds, swept
dirt and rubbish off the sidewalk, and I took the after pictures. My group and
I pulled out so many of the big weeds on the side of the garden closest to the
band room. I think the other garden groups need to continue to weed the garden
so we can start planting. I think, once we have the harvest, we should enjoy
what we have grown but also show the rest of the school all the hard work we
have been doing and what we have created.
