Garden Group 4 3/22/12

When I first entered the Garden I noticed that the garden was full of weeds and looked like it had not been worked on in a while. I took a small spade and in combination with that and gloves I pulled and dug up weeds. Overall as a group we removed a lot of weeds from the northern side of the garden. I believe that the next group needs to keep weeding and get all those weeds out of the garden so we can plant and harvest. I think we should keep throwing the harvest away because its weeds.

Garden Group Work (Group 4)

Before
After

Group 4
People who worked in the garden today: Yusuke, Cory and Kekaha
Date: March 22, 2012
Time: 3:00PM-3:30PM

Initial Observations:
The weeds near the banana tree has grown back again.  Most of the weeds in the other areas of the garden has been cleared out by the previous Garden Groups.

Individual Work:
I first watered the garden to loosen up the soil and make it easier for us to remove the weeds.  I then removed most of the weeds that were growing near the banana tree.

Work accomplished as a group:
We removed most of the weeds that were growing near the banana tree.  We also watered the banana tree.

Work that should be done by the next group:
The next group who will be working in the garden should take out the remaning weeds that are in the garden.  They should also begin preparing the garden so that we can begin planting new plants.

What we should do with the harvest:
We currently do not have anything to harvest in the garden.

Gratifying Gardening

I worked on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 with the seedlings in the planter. My initial impressions were that they had grown quite considerably since I previously viewed them, but were still fragile in appearance. In addition, on the young Papaya there were a considerable amount of aphids. Individually, I mixed some of the existing dirt with water, turning it into a slush. Then, I transplanted some of the seedlings, most notably, tomatoes. No other people in my group showed up for work on Tuesday February 28, 2012, but Vanessa did join me and together we were able to transplant seedlings. I think that the next group should continue to care for these seedlings as they are the future of our blossoming garden, but also continue to tend to the main garden. I also believe that the next garden group should take care of the aphids infestations because it is truly right and just to preserve our lone Papaya. Finally, In my opinion, we should take the fruits of our labor and enjoy them with the rest of the student body.
